6 Tips For Balancing Your Chakras
Many things can throw our feeling of well-being out of balance, from sudden weight gain and poor eating habits to emotional struggles and increased levels of stress. If you feel less than your best and can’t quite figure out how to get that good energy back into your life, this could signify that one or more of your chakras is misaligned.
To learn more about chakras, how they intersect with your health and yogic practice, and how to balance them, continue reading below.
What Is A Chakra?
A Chakra is an important central energetic system that makes up your emotional, spiritual, and physical body’s life force. Originally discussed in ancient Indian Vedic texts called the Vedas as far back as 1500-1000 BC, Chakras are considered spinning spheres of energetic power that expand to enlighten as they are aligned up through your body.
While there are actually over 100 different Chakras in the human body, the main Chakras consist of 7 major points. These points include:
- Root Chakra: A red Chakra located at the base of the spine next to the tailbone that indicates grounding and stability.
- Sacral Chakra: An orange Chakra located in the pubic area that controls pleasure and creativity.
- Solar Plexus Chakra: A yellow Chakra located in the stomach region that relates to self-esteem and digestion.
- Heart Chakra: A green Chakra in the center of the chest that dictates compassion, love, and weight issues.
- Throat Chakra: A blue Chakra located in the throat that indicates communication patterns and mouth problems.
- Third Eye Chakra: An indigo Chakra located between the eyebrows that relates to creativity, concentration, intuition, open-mindedness, and headaches. It is the most well-known Chakra.
- Crown Chakra: A purple Chakra at the top of the head that is said to connect the human being to enlightenment and the heavens.
The Best Ways To Balance Your Chakras
When your Chakras are out of balance or unaligned, there are many different symptoms that you might feel. Some Chakra misalignment symptoms can even be chronic and require both patience and control to remove through Chakra opening. Fortunately, there are many excellent ways to begin the journey of balancing your Chakras.
Through Yoga Practice
One of the best ways to balance your Chakras is to engage in a consistent and challenging yoga practice. While the type of yoga does not necessarily matter, make sure to choose a yoga practice that is suitable to your needs, experience level, and abilities. Hatha, Vinyasa, and Ashtanga are three of the best yoga styles to utilize when working on unblocking one or more of your Chakra points.
Try A Color Meditation
Though color meditations might seem simple at first glance, they are a rather advanced form of meditation. This, however, should not deter people of all levels and abilities to participate.
To do a color meditation, you must simply focus on the color of the Chakra that you wish to align. If you are having consistent headaches that you would like to remedy, for example, focus on the third eye chakra and the color indigo. Do so with a slight smile, calm breath, and an overall sense of wellness. Repeating this process consistently over time in either a sitting or lying position can help balance whichever Chakra you choose to focus on.
Wear Chakra Jewelry
Chakra jewelry is a type of jewelry made from specific crystals and gemstones considered to have healing properties that correspond to each of the 7 main Chakras. Wearing Chakra jewelry can help encourage energy flow throughout the body and open blocked Chakras.
To pinpoint certain areas, choose gems and colors in accordance with their corresponding Chakras and wear them as close to the direct Chakra area as possible. For example, wear a necklace to reach the heart or throat Chakras or earrings to reach the third eye Chakra.
Explore Essential Oils
Essential oils can be a great way to encourage your Chakras to open and balance. Aromatic oils like myrrh, sandalwood, eucalyptus, lemongrass, and lavender all have different Chakra-opening properties and can add to the feeling of relaxation and abundance throughout the day. Running an essential oil diffuser is a great way to add essential oils into your routine without adding extra hassle to your life.
Practice Chakra-Balancing Chants
There are 7 Chakra chants developed especially by practitioners of the yogic and ayurvedic principles. Each chant relates directly to a particular Chakra and can be either recited or listened to when needing Chakra-opening assistance.
The Chakra chants are as follows:
- Root Chakra: Chant “Lam”
- Sacral Chakra: Chant “Vam”
- Solar Plexus Chakra: Chant “Ram”
- Heart Chakra: Chant “Yam”
- Throat Chakra: Chant “Ham”
- Third Eye Chakra: Chant “Aum” known as “Om”
- Crown Chakra: No chanting, just listening
Eat A Clean Diet
The last way to balance your Chakras is to make sure you are eating a completely clean diet. While a clean diet in some cultures can mean no fast food, a clean diet when it comes to Chakra cleansing refers to eating a vegetarian diet comprised of mostly vegetables and completely avoiding the following:
- Fast Food
- Heavy oils
- Processed foods
